07.16.08 Anti-piracy raids in Mexico continue
A Mexican police taskforce executed a raid on the notorious pirate market known as "La Cuchilla" in the State of Puebla on 4 July. The raid was part of an overall campaign that is targeting major distribution centers. This is the third action against the same market this year.
Based on a complaint filed by the local industry anti-piracy investigators from APCM Mexico, a total of 100 commercial establishments and two active laboratories dedicated to the distribution and replication of illegal music and films have been closed down. APCM Mexico is a joint enforcement unit funded by IFPI, which represents the recording industry worldwide, and MPA, the movie industry body. As part of the raid, authorities seized 183 DVD/CD-R burners, 454 528 music CD-Rs, 76 920 film DVD-Rs, 300 000 music and movie in-lays and 100 000 jewel boxes, along with several hundred televisions and speakers that were being used to market the illegal products.
Three hundred law enforcement officers participated in the operation, along with experts from the Attorney General's office (PGR), the Investigation Agency (AFIS), the Federal Preventive Police (PFP), as well as local and state police.
