BACK GROUND OF CASE:

Information was received in January 2006 that a premises was functioning as a warehouse at China City (Johannesburg), distributing counterfeit music cassettes and CD-R's. The Organised Crime Unit of the Police was contacted and the premises subsequently raided. A professional setup was discovered for distribution of counterfeit music. This discovery led to news coverage on E-TV and in several newspapers. Thousands of infringing copies of music were found stacked on the floor and against the walls. 2 Suspects were detained but later released by the Police as it could not be ascertained whether they were actually linked to the premises or not. Analysis of the goods later led to the linking of the warehouse to 30 different shops all over the country.
